It's also one of the slimmest 3G mobile phones to be released. The phone weighs just 71g and measures a slender 103mm x 46.5mm x 9.4mm.

Given its slim design, the phone has very compact features, which may initially discourage some users who prefer larger controls. It's worthwhile persevering, however, because the features of the phone are truly exciting. Like others in the Sony Ericsson family, the W880i has a five-way navigation button as the central feature of its control pad. Traditionally slides have been a requirement for entering art competitions however more and more are now accepting digital entries. Whether you email the digital image as an attachment, burn it onto a CD or print your image of the artwork depends on your ability to do this and the terms and conditions of the art competition.

The best way to get a great digital image of your painting/sculpture or artwork is to take it outside on an overcast day making sure there are no shadows on it. Fill the frame of your viewfinder of your camera with your painting taking care that you have lined it up square on. Don't shoot looking up, down or at an angle because the photograph will not end up square. Have your camera set on the highest resolution possible.

Delete photos that don't turn out and keep on taking photos of the painting/artwork until you get one you are happy with. You will need to copy the files from your digital camera onto your computer. Refer to your Digital Cameras manual if you are having problems.

Have a go and experiment with the editing your photos with the software that comes with your digital camera or with your PC. Images can be cropped and color adjusted if necessary. If you are not satisfied learn more about software such as Adobe Photoshop to edit your digital files, borrow books from the library, get on the internet or enroll into community courses.

Make sure you save the image in the correct format and size - read the conditions for the art competition you are entering. Most will accept the format "Jpeg" or "Tiff" and will often have a labeling convention that needs to be followed with your name and the title of your artwork. When you burn the image on the CD include any notes or additional information in a word document at the same time. Label the CD clearly with your name Title of work and address and phone number. If you want to you could print a customized label for your CD and include the image you are entering in the art competition.

Film cameras are becoming rare. Although digital cameras have come a long way since they were first introduced there are still photographers that prefer to use old film cameras. Some of them use film exclusively while others prefer film for specific scenarios.

There is no simple answer to the question which camera is better, film or digital. In some scenarios film is better than digital and in other scenarios digital is better than film. They both have advantages and disadvantages and the true answer to which is better is simply a list of differences. Here are a few:

The sensor: In film cameras a light sensitive film is situated behind the lens. To take a photo the shutter opens for a predetermined period of time and light hits the film "printing" a photo on the film. After a photo is taken the film is rolled and a fresh film is placed behind the lens. In digital cameras an electronic sensor (known as CCD) is situated behind the lens. The CCD is comprised of many tiny light sensitive sensors one per pixel. To take a photo the shutter opens for a predetermined period of time and light hits the sensor. Each pixel gets its value and together all the pixels comprise one photo. The photo is saved on a digital media and the CCD is electronically emptied.

The main difference between a CCD sensor and a film is the Depth of Field. Since digital sensors are smaller than 35mm film the depth of field is much bigger in fact in most compact digital cameras it is almost infinite.

Instant feedback: One of great features digital cameras is instant feedback. Digital cameras include a small LCD screen. After a photo is shot it can be viewed on that screen. If the photo is not good you can take another one. The ability to view the photos helps in making an educated decision on how to fix it or how to compose it better. With extra storage media in your pocket digital cameras have virtually infinite capacity. On the other hand film cameras' capacity is very limited. After such a roll is used changing to a new roll takes time and is not easy to do in scenarios such as darkness or a harsh environment. Rolls of film are not small and carrying rolls equivalent of thousands of photos is not practical.

Shooting angles: Digital cameras allow you to take photos without having your eye glued to the viewfinder. Combined with the virtually zero cost of taking photos and high capacity this means new opportunities for new shooting angles.

A photo cost: Photos taken with a digital camera really cost nothing. They are saved on erasable memory and thus can always be freely discarded. The photos that you decide to keep can be copied to digital media such as a computer's hard disk. With low digital storage prices the cost of storing one photo is practically zero. Film does cost money. A roll of film costs money and can not be reused. Every time that the shutter button is pressed money is spent regardless if you later on decide to discard them.

Photo processing: Digital cameras photos are basically computer files and can be manipulated by computer software. Such software is known as photo processing software and allows you to correct photos and create special effects. Some photo processing abilities are built-in cameras. With film on the other hand it is very hard to make corrections. If corrections are absolutely needed the easiest way to do them is to scan the negative or the printed photo (i.e. converted to digital) and process it on a computer as if it was a digital camera photo.

Adapting to different conditions: Rolls of film are designed for specific scenarios There are indoor and outdoor films or films with different light sensitivity. When conditions change a film camera photographer will have to shoot with the wrong film, change the roll (and lose the remainder photos) or use another camera with a different roll in it. Shooting photos with the wrong roll of film can result in distorted colors (reddish photos for example), a grainy photo and more. With digital cameras on the other hand the characteristics of the sensor can be electronically set. With a click of a button the camera can change to indoor or outdoor mode, low light, night photography and son on.

Before my uncle realized what happened his whole spring and summer were booked with weddings. He couldn't believe all the work he had. He had to hire an assistant.

And not only that, but the quality of his work was so good that through word of mouth of his customers that he will be booked for weddings for the next 2 to 3 years even if he didn't advertise anymore.

My Uncle Pete has told me that it has never been better making money with a digital camera than now. There are so many different ways - stock photography, weddings, real estate photography, portraits, travel, greeting cards, websites - the list just goes on and on.

But my Uncle Pete did give me one piece of advice that he said was important. He told me - start small but think big.

Before getting to see how a digital camera works, let's begin by saying that a digital camera differs from a classical one primary through its storage capabilities. Imagine that using your old classic 35 mm camera you could make "n" pictures (for example 36) on a film before having to stop making pictures and change the film.

This inconvenient is no more present with digital cameras because you have so much space available that you could do several hundred pictures before having to empty your card and if this thing is annoying imagine a portable drive with so much space that you even forget the meaning of "spaceless". Here is how a digital camera works.

Until now we concluded that the biggest difference between classical cameras and digital ones is "available space" but is this all? The answer is a simple NO; I suppose you heard many times the word mega pixel when speaking of digital camera, but what is it? A digital camera works on the basis of stimuli that an incorporated sensor receives.

In a digital camera the light excites a digital sensor which is a very small computer; this sensor is composed of millions of tiny sensors called "pixel", a pixel means "picture elements". It is on due to pixel structure that a digital camera works.

These many small sensors make up a sort of table that has a vertical and horizontal length, so if I say that my camera has "N pixels width * M pixels height = K" this number K is the "Megapixel that we've heard so many people speak about". So is this all the mechanism that shows how a digital camera works?

So mega pixels are made of millions of small dots, so more pixels means more mega pixels, hence means a higher quality picture, but a more expensive camera. After the light has reached the sensor it goes through several filters until it becomes a digital signal. This doesn't tell us all about how a digital camera works.

Another set of filters is applied for white balance, color and aliasing. At the end of this process the image is made as small as possible with a technique of "erasing" unnecessary pixels. Next the image gets into the buffer, and when the buffer has completed loading the image it writes it on an external memory like a card. Basically this is the secret of how a digital camera works.

Now I will tell you a few words about the "legendary" zoom that usually makes the difference between a cheep and an expensive camera. The digital zoom is a "fake" zoom because it simply enlarges the pixels that make up the photo so ... you can't imagine the result.

How does a digital camera zoom work? An optical zoom is a different thing, because you can change the "field of view" for widening out for a landscape photo or zoom on for a nice portrait. All this is realized by moving the lens elements to change the focal length. So if you like to take nice photos look for the optical zoom, remember that the digital one is just for the seller to tell you that it's not such a bad deal to buy a camera that has a zoom of 5. Always ask and test how the digital camera works.

For many, digital photography is a breath of fresh air, but be wary - believing our landscape images will be superior could be a serious blunder.
Having lost count of the number of people who have asked me: have you gone digital? I am always left wondering why it's such a much-asked question. The camera is only a tool in which a photographer creates an image. His personal ability to create a unique image remains the same.
For many forms of photography, digital has long held obvious advantages, but for landscapes the resolution necessary to make larger prints just wasn't available. But things have changed and digital cameras are fast becoming the tools that most pros use.
Modern digital cameras are perfectly capably of matching the 35 mm film - the format which most landscape photographers begin with. But can they really match the large format film cameras? This is probably the greatest question that all photographers face.
Instant LCD feedback is digitals greatest gift and this enables the photographer to check exposure and composition of their image in the blink of an eye. While this is a big advantage, the hours spent in front of the computer processing the raw images have to be a hindrance. A landscape photographers time is best spent behind a camera not in front of a computer.
The pros and cons of digital photography will remain an issue for some time. At the end of the day a digital camera won't make a photographers images better. The same values we apply in our photography should remain regardless of which camera we use.
Good photography remains as elusive and as enticing as it ever was; going digital doesn't change this or make getting good images any easier. It brings technical advantages, and plenty of them, but the majority of photographic techniques never change. Good landscape images come from the photographer's personal ability, not the ability of a camera. The camera helps, but the creative eye remains the same.
As a landscape photographer I am still hesitant to embrace digital photography and all the qualities that digital has brought to other professionals in different photography fields.
There are a few simple reasons that I still use a film camera: The authenticity of my images could be questioned if I used a digital camera. It is often assumed that great digital images have been manipulated. Too much time is spent in front of a computer. Slide film produce stronger colours than a digital camera.
There are many advantages for changing to digital but I'm going to stick with film; for the time-being that is. With time film cameras will be a thing of the past and all our images will be exchanged for the pixels. But, be wary - believing our work will be superior would be falling into a great trap. For me size matters, the larger I can print an image the better.

Introduction I have bought and sold many digital cameras both at auction and new from retailers. When buying a digital camera you should keep in mind your purpose, budget and features and select the appropriate searches to target suitable models. Some key points are illustrated in the next section. Items for Consideration * A larger factor optical zoom at minimum 3x is always referrable than a large digital zoom factor which magnifies the image at the expense of quality. The higher the optical zoom range you can afford the better a bare minimum would be 3x.
* Make sure the number of maximum megapixels is adequate for your needs. The higher the number of megapixels the more expensive the camera will be and the larger the image you can print. For everyday use 5 megapixels is adequate.
As a guide the print size and quality per megapixels is roughly:
Max Print Size Buy a camera with Resolution 4 x 6" 2 megapixels 1600 x 1200 5 x 7" 3 megapixels 2048 x 1536 8 x1 0" 5 megapixels 2560 x 1920 11 x 14" 6 megapixels 2816 x 2112 16 x 20" 8 megapixels 3264 x 2468
* Make sure the camera allows you to adjust the quality of the image to various megapixel settings this will allow you to take more shots.
* Most cameras come with very little memory capability. Extra memory can be bought through auction at very reasonable prices compared to store costs often saving up to 50 %. The more memory you can afford the better. As a guide a minimum of 256 megabyte should be considered.
* If you buy a discounted camera as new from an ebay store or commercial seller it is worthwhile checking with the manufacturer on their website if you can purchase extended warranty. I have had cameras fail just after the 12 month warranty period and have had to buy new replacements due to the cost of an out of warranty repair.
* Ensure the camera comes with software and cables to allow viewing and download of pictures onto personal computers.
* Finally if buying at auction ensure that :
 the seller has good positive feedback scores and selling history.
 pay by credit card for any purchases over $100 to ensure you can get your money back in case the goods are not received.
 Ensure postage costs are reasonable
 If you find and item you like unless it is "buy it now" out your bid in right before closing to increase your chances of winning.
I've had most success with finding digital cameras and related accessories especially memory using auction sites such as Ebay.
Auction site resellers also provide a convenient way to find digital camera bargains using targeted searches.

In focus objects in a digital photo is a very basic requirement for high quality photography. There are two different ways to focus on such objects: manual or automatic. There are a few automatic focus methods one of them is known as active auto focus.
High quality sharp and crisp digital photos are a result of many optical parameters that need to be set right. One of the most important optical parameters is focus. When objects in a digital photo are out of focus they look blurry and are missing details and clarity. When objects are in focus they look sharp and crisp.
While focus can be set manually by the photographer in most cases using the digital camera's automatic focus feature is much easier and faster. There are many different algorithms and methods that digital cameras use in order to automatically determine the right focus for a specific scenario. One of those methods is knows as active auto focus.
Active auto focus
Setting the digital camera focus to its right position can be easy if only you knew the exact distance between the camera and the object or objects that you are trying to focus on. If you know the lenses that you are using, the aperture and all the other optical settings then by simply by knowing the distance to the object or objects in the digital photo the exact focus can be calculated and set.
This is exactly how active focus works. Digital cameras that are equipped with an active auto focus system use distance sensors that measure the distance from the camera to the objects in the scene. Usually the camera measures the distance to the object or objects around the center of the photo.
There are a few techniques to measure the distance. One of them is by using an ultrasonic sensor. Such a sensor transmits an ultrasonic signal toward the object. When the signal hits the object it bounces back and some of its bounced energy is received back by the digital camera sensors. The digital camera measures the time it took the signal to reach back the camera and since the speed of such an ultrasonic signal is known the distance can be calculated. Other methods use infrared signals. Once the camera determined the distance to the objects the focus can be set by calculating the exact position of the lenses and by moving the lenses to that position.
Active auto focus has the advantage of working in complete darkness. Since the camera does not rely on measurements done on the captured photo the camera sensors can calculate the distance to the object in complete darkness and in focus high quality digital photos can be taken in scenarios where otherwise focus would have been impossible.
Since the active auto focus method requires extra sensors it is more expensive to implement and is usually found in higher end digital SLR cameras. Active auto focus can sometimes fail. The reasons can vary: some objects tend to absorb the transmitted signal energy instead of bouncing it back while other objects actually radiate similar signals (for example candles radiate infrared energy) and can confuse the digital camera sensors. When the auto focus fails you can either try to focus on other objects in the same distance from the digital camera, lock the focus and pan back to the original objects you wanted to capture or you can revert to old fashion manual focus.
